Why Am I Faking Positivity?

Forcing a smile - faking positivity - is submitting to the situation at hand. Sometimes it's appropriate, sometimes it's self-defeat.

When we compulsively falsify positivity, and walk away asking ourselves why we did it, we most likely come from a history that conditioned us to believe that our honest, open, spontaneous expression would be met with disaster. That defense mechanism - that functioned to protect us - sabotages us later on.
