World War I veterans were promised a bonus check upon their return from Europe after the end of World War I.

Congress never paid them, and in 1932, more than 10,000 vets descended on Washington, DC to protest. Their request was denied by the Senate, and their presence was so dramatic President Hoover ordered troops to remove these veterans by force if necessary.

In charge of these troops were MacArthur, Eisenhower, and Patton!

The hero of WWII was mounted on horseback when he drew his saber against fellow veterans and literally told the man that saved his life in ww1 to get out of here (end of video).
