Here's a step-by-step guide on how to prepare Tulumba, a delicious Turkish dessert.
Ingredients:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup vegetable oil
3 eggs
A pinch of salt
Vegetable oil, for frying
For the syrup:
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup water
1 tbsp lemon juice
Instructions:
1. In a medium-sized saucepan, bring water, milk, sugar, salt, and oil to a boil. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
2. Add flour to the mixture, stirring constantly until the dough comes together and forms a ball. Remove from heat and let the dough cool for a few minutes.
3. Add eggs, one at a time, beating each one into the dough until fully incorporated.
4. Fill a piping bag fitted with a star-shaped nozzle with the dough.
5. In a large pot or deep fryer, heat oil over medium heat.
6. Pipe the dough directly into the hot oil in a spiral shape, using scissors to cut the dough from the piping bag. Fry until golden brown, turning occasionally to cook evenly.
7. Once done, remove from the oil and place onto a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.
8. For the syrup, mix sugar, water, and lemon juice in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and let simmer for 10-15 minutes until the syrup has thickened.
9. Once the syrup has thickened, remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly.
10. Dip the fried dough into the syrup for a few seconds, turning to coat evenly.
11. Serve the Tulumba immediately while still warm and syrupy.
Enjoy your delicious and authentic Turkish Tulumba dessert!
