Sunday Longplay - The 7th Guest (PC)

This week on Sunday Longplay, I'm exploring a PC CD-ROM game from my youth, that just made its debut on Switch last week! Welcome to The 7th Guest!
First of all, an important PSA regarding the recent Switch release: The infamous microscope puzzle crashes the game every time you make your first move, so you have to go to the hint book in the Library three times to get past it. Just get the game on Steam if you want to play it.

The 7th Guest blends three different genres into one: it's a FMV horror point-and-click puzzle adventure game where you're an amnesiac wandering through a haunted mansion solving puzzles as video of the plot unfolds as you progress. This was also the first PC game that was only released on CD-ROM, as it was too big for floppy discs.

Some of the puzzles are fairly easy like the telescope puzzle where you have to spell out a sentence, or the classic 8-queens chess puzzle, but others are notorious for their difficulty, like the Bishop Puzzle where you have to switch the positions of four white and four black bishops without ever putting a bishop in danger from the other side, or the Microscope Game where you play against an enemy AI representing the game's main antagonist Henry Stauf in a game of Ataxx. If you get stuck, you can go to the hint book in the library, and if you use it three times, it will solve the puzzle for you. But forget that, I'm doing this legit!
