Hate Small Talk? Get Good.

Small talk is a subtle arena for the displaying of social tact. Those who lack social tact will have a difficult time in this arena.

Emotional openness, spontaneity, a strong sense of self -- "groundedness", a relative mastery of anxiety, humility, and interest in the fellow members of our species: These are a few of the things that small talk demands from us.

If you hate small talk, you hate your own weakness. Which is fine, I guess, but it would be helpful to get more comfortable with it, so you don't have to hate them.
