Joseph Arthur Ankrah Requesting Help From Ghanaian Chiefs With The Transition From Military Rule
Joseph Arthur Ankrah was a General of the army of Ghana who served as the first military Head of state of Ghana from 1966 to 1969 in the position of Chairman of the National Liberation Council. Ankrah also served as Chairperson of the Organisation of African Unity from 24 February 1966 to 5 November 1966. Before becoming the Head of State, Ankrah served as the first commander of the Ghana Army.
Hamani Diori was the first President of the Republic of Niger. He was appointed to that office in 1960, when Niger gained independence. Although corruption was a common feature of his administration, he gained international respect for his role as a spokesman for African affairs and as a popular arbitrator in conflicts. His rule ended with a coup in 1974.
