Does that dog bite? That is a question some people who approach us from a distance ask. That is the first cue to myself that this individual is not the appropriate person to pet my dog when they ask. If they ask if he is friendly that which is a similar question but rephrased different I then analyze the situation when they ask if they can pet. Two similar yet VERY different questions when it comes to mindset. The psychology behind the question does he bite leads me to believe said individual is not comfortable around dogs. ENERGY MATTERS! Dogs feed off your energy and the energy of those around them. Does that dog bite question often times equates to the person asking the question is nervous or at least not comfortable with my dog. If they are nervous or not comfortable my Cane Corso will feel that energy so why even bother putting everyone in a weird and possible bad situation. Remember it is ok to not let people pet your dog. Your dog is not here to appease strangers. Your dog is not here to be part of a petting zoo. Your dog is not here to be gawked at due to how majestic they may look. Your dog is here to love you and be your companion. Treat your dog as they want to be treated. Sometimes my Cane Corso wants to meet and greet and other times he just wants to be left alone. Understand your dog's body language and follow suit.
