The Federalist Papers are a collection of 85 essays written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay. With the Articles of Confederation considered lacking by many, Federalist No. 1, written by Hamilton, introduces the arguments for a federal system of governance that is capable of preserving liberty indefinitely.
