LIVE COVERAGE: London May Day protests

Live from London on Monday, May 1, as thousands of protesters take to the streets around Trafalgar Square to demand improvements in pay and working conditions, and a reversal of what they see as 'anti-union' legislation.

Organisers say the demonstrations are focused on 'trade union rights, human rights and international solidarity'.

The UK government is pushing through 'anti-strike' legislation guaranteeing 'minimum service requirements' for critical industries such as health and transport, which it says will curb disruption seen in recent months.

Unions and opposition politicians have described the move as 'draconian'.
