Duracell SLIGC125 6 volt batteries. Are they the worst?

We have had two pairs of these batteries. We kept both sets topped off with distilled water and never let the voltage go below 12.4. After the second set go out in less than two years, it's time for a major upgrade. This is just me expressing my displeasure.
