The Liquidity and Credit Cycle Downturns

During Phase 1 of the liquidity cycle downturn, the Federal Reserve tightens and reduces liquidity in the system, causing interest rates to rise and asset valuations to become harder to sustain. This occurred last year, causing bonds to decrease in value. Phase 2 is the credit cycle downturn, which happens when the credit cycle is affected and real credit risks appear in the economy.
