Your Freedom and Your Rights Are TikTokking Away

Have you heard about the TikTok controversy? Several states and federal agencies have banned the app from government-owned hardware. But people are calling on the federal government to do something about the alleged espionage this app represents. Just as with the PATRIOT Act, the RESTRICT Act seems less about stopping TikTok and more about restricting the rights of the American people.

Should Congress consider legislation to regulate the foreign commerce of an entity controlled by a foreign government? Yes, but only to the limits of their powers, which is foreign commerce. However, that is not what they are trying to do here. They are using fear of the apparent espionage of TikTok to claim the authority to regulate, control, and destroy any technology they can somehow claim is controlled by a foreign entity
