Anderson is accused of evading $170 million in federal income taxes and obstructing the IRS investigation. He set up offshore shell corporations to hide his assets and hired corporate service companies in the British Virgin Islands to serve as directors so he could not be identified as the owner. Despite earning over $450 million in income from successful business ventures, Anderson never paid the taxes he owed, including $40 million to the District of Columbia and over $250,000 in use taxes for luxury items.
