The Perils of an Uncontrolled Appetite

Recent Sermon from my church at Brookside Church.

America is a place where appetite and desire rule above all else.

Where so many glory in shame and celebrate things God has called us to surrender.

There is a fine line between slipping into legalism and living in "hyper grace."
That's probably why Paul chose to address both extremes in this passage.
The thing about a verse like this, though we may walk circumspectly at our present. Our appetites will continue to rage within us, thats why a life in the spirit is so pivotal. Otherwise we end up tolerating and celebrating idols the Lord has commanded us to tear down.
This message to follow Jesus, isn't for the faint of heart. It's a call to come and die. As C.S Lewis said.."I didn't go to religion to make me happy. I always knew a bottle of wine would do that. If you want a religion to make you feel really comfortable, I certainly don't recommend Christianity."
True purpose exist on the other side of death to self.
"For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things."
