Runaway Supermassive Black Hole Creates Spectacular Stellar Wake in Distant Galaxy #shorts #nasa

Astronomers may have found a black hole 20 million times the Sun's mass, speeding away from a distant galaxy's core. As it moves, it compresses gas and dust, forming a 200,000 light-year-long line of new stars. Pieter van Dokkum from Yale University likens this to the wake left behind by a ship.

The black hole's stellar wake contains hot blue stars and is almost half as bright as its parent galaxy. Researchers believe it was ejected during a complex interaction between three supermassive black holes from two galaxy mergers. If confirmed, this would be the first evidence of supermassive black holes being expelled from their galaxies.

Though black holes don't emit light, they often reveal their presence through visible signs like dense disks of swirling, superheated gas and dust.
