How Tik Tok “investigators” cause harm

In Chicago, we have a number of people that leave bars heavily intoxicated and end up drowning in Lake Michigan. These instances where intoxicated people drown in bodies of water are not limited to Chicago. Some social media personalities have sought to describe these occurrences as the result of a serial killer or multiple serial killers. What ends up happenings is a great deal of harm caused to the suffering families and the police investigation.
Social media personalities impede police investigations. What ends up happenings is that police and tip phone lines are flooded with hysterical callers. It becomes incredibly difficult for the police and investigators to sort though what is bogus information.
Some of the viewers of these videos reach out to the deceased person’s family which is very traumatic for them. Families are looking for answers. These Tik Tok people provide nothing more than theories with very little or no factual basis for their conclusions. Please leave the families of the dead alone.
Even more bizarre, sometimes the families of the deceased reach out to these tik tok personalities and actually pay them money which represents a scam in my view.
