Tom Hanks writes novel to escape movie-making pressures

Tom Hanks, a two-time Oscar winner, has written his first novel, inspired by his own screen career. The book, entitled "The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece," is about the making of a multi-million dollar superhero action movie. It features a cast of characters, including an eccentric director and a self-important male actor who disrupts and delays filming.

In an interview with the BBC, Hanks said that he wrote the book as a "release from the never-ending pressure" of making movies. He has "always" written "in some form or another" and began writing the 448-page novel in 2018. Hanks' debut novel has been published without going through the usual trial of rejections from publishers. However, he is unapologetic and knows the book will ultimately "live and die based on its own ability to entertain and enlighten an audience."
