In a crisis, a government will drop its benevolent mask and do anything and everything necessary to protect itself.

Even the US Constitution was not able to protect investors from the US breaking its promises to US bondholders in 1933 and paying them back with paper money instead of gold.

Under Executive Order 6102, President Roosevelt stole the private property (gold) of millions of Americans, and Congress and the Supreme Court went along with it.
