Harley Davidson can’t find enough repo men.

A typical car report will pay about $350, which is not a lot of money considering how dangerous it is. Repo men are known to get shot at.
Repossessing a motorcycle is more complex and dangerous than a car. If the repo man does not return with the motorcycle, they won’t get paid. Motorcycles may be recovered less than 10% of the time. People in the repo industry says that Harley Davidson expects them to basically work for free.
Harley Davidson provides lending for customers to finance their purchase. When customers don’t pay their loan, Harley will contract with repossession agents to tow away the vehicles.
The company is reporting a credit loss rate of 3.2% in the first quarter versus its typical rate of 2%. However, they claim Q1 is the worst because custoemrs tend to make their payments during riding season in the spring and summer, then becoming delinquent in fall and winter.
The workforce in the repossession industry may have shrank by 40% over the last few years due to stimulus and other benefits that helped customers pay bills, as well as repossession moratoriums. Many repo men switched to roadside assistance.
