Why this major AI investor wants to PAUSE advanced AI research

Skype co-creator Jann Tallinn, a major early investor in Google's Deep Mind and the artificial intelligence company Anthropic, says he spearheaded an open letter signed by more than 27,000 people including Elon Musk and Apple's Steve Wozniak calling for an immediate pause to the training of large language artificial intelligence models more advanced than GPT-4 because of his fear that "uncontrollable minds" will escape human control and lead to the destruction of humanity. Economist Robin Hanson says the fear is unfounded and pre-emptive regulation is unwarranted.
