Missing the Love of God

In this important study in the parable of the prodigal son, we find the elder brother who represents those bound by mere religion and how they can miss the Father's love. The older brother embodies the self-righteous and legalistic attitudes of the religious leaders of the time, who focused on obeying rules and earning God's favor through good works. His resentment towards his younger brother's forgiveness and restoration reveals his own lack of understanding of the Father's unconditional love and grace.
