What did Jesus do before He came to earth?

This talk came out of a discussion Tony Pearce had with Jehovah’s Witnesses. Before He came to earth was Jesus the eternal uncreated Son of God, equal with the Father and the Holy Spirit? Or was he a second in command, created being, who before coming to earth was the Archangel Michael?
