Rishi Sunak is overseeing the ‘managed decline’ of the Tory party, blasts Priti Patel

Rishi Sunak has been warned by a leading Tory that he needs to offer more “hope and optimism” for Conservatism or risk presiding over “managed decline” of the party and defeat at next year’s general election.

Former home secretary Priti Patel launched a veiled swipe at Rishi Sunak and other senior Conservatives following the loss of more than 1,000 councillors at last week’s local elections.

She will be a keynote speaker at the inaugural conference on Saturday of the Conservative Democratic Organisation, the grassroots group set up by supporters of Boris Johnson.
