Republicans Are LYING About Work Requirements

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy spoke to reporters and discussed the debt ceiling and what he claims Republican work requirements on social programs would hypothetically do for people: ”What work requirements actually do: help people get a job...the public wants it, both parties want it."

That's right, folks. The party of "fiscal responsibility" wants to hold the entire country hostage in order to force people who are already struggling to work even harder.

Of course, Republicans will tell you that work requirements are necessary to reduce government spending and encourage people to get back to work. But the truth is, work requirements do nothing of the sort. In fact, they actually harm low-income people and make it harder for them to get by.

Studies have shown that work requirements do not significantly boost employment. Instead, they cause many people to lose their benefits, including food stamps, Medicaid, and housing assistance. This can have a devastating impact on families, especially those with children.

So why are Republicans so obsessed with work requirements? It's simple. They don't want to help people. They want to punish them. They want to make it harder for people to get ahead, so that they can stay in power.
