LIVE: Jerusalem Day 'Flag March' set to pass through Muslim Quarter of Old City

Thousands of Israeli nationalists are set to march through East Jerusalem for their annual 'Flag March', to mark Jerusalem Day on Thursday, May 18.

The rally is scheduled to process through the Muslim Quarter in the Old City, which regularly leads to heightened tensions and clashes.

Some previous governments have rerouted the parade to avoid trouble, although Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has insisted this year’s event will go ahead on its 'regular' route.

The 'Flag March’ celebrates the capture of Jerusalem following the 1967 Six Day War. This year’s rally comes days after Israel agreed a truce with Islamic Jihad, following five days of intensive fighting.
