THE TASTE OF HEAVEN
I have a friend that has lost their ability to taste food. When I think about that, I've often wondered what it would be like to have no taste sensation. You would have to use your imagination, and when you took a bite, you would imagine it tasting correctly.
We often overlook some of the simple things God has gifted us with in life.
The five senses that he gave us show how much he wants us to enjoy and be involved in the world that he created for us. After all, he made this world for us to live in as His sons and daughters.
He gave us sight to enjoy the colors of his creation.
He gave us hearing to drink in the sounds of song and nature.
He gave us a touch to enjoy the embrace of a loved one.
He gave us smell to enjoy the scent of freshly baked bread in the morning.
Any gave us taste to participate in the enjoyment of taking in the food we needed for life.
So when someone says, "Taste and see that the lord is good." That reminds me that God has provided the same for us in the spiritual for every sensation we have in the natural.
The heavenly realm, which is the presence of the Lord, both now and in eternity, is the pattern of everything we enjoy on earth. This is what is meant when Jesus said in Matthew six, "As it is in heaven, so shall it be on earth."
So what is the taste of heaven?
What did David say? "sweeter than honey and the honeycomb."
In that statement, David was referring to something he had experienced when he stepped into the presence of the Lord and tasted what heaven is like.
You don't have to die to experience what God has in store for us for eternity. There's a place in prayer and meditation where heaven's presence becomes so real that you can taste the Lord's goodness, see his beauty, and hear his lovely voice saying I love you.
