It’s a good thing to be compassionate, to try to see things from another’s perspective, and to “weep with those who weep.” But the new brand of so-called compassion that’s arrived on the scene makes people’s individual, subjective experiences the chief authority in life. It tells us that someone’s personal impression of being oppressed, or of being slighted, or of being of a different gender, is absolutely true—regardless of the objective facts.
