New York City releases first 'nuclear attack' PSA since 1960s

Respondents poke fun at 'life-saving' advice.

The New York City Emergency Management Agency has released a commercial telling residents what to do in the event of a nuclear attack - the first of its kind since the 1960s.

"So there was a nuclear attack," the presenter says in the video's opening scene, "Don't ask me how or why, just know that the big attack happened."

She then lists a series of "important steps" New Yorkers should take, including leaving a building and showering off radioactive dust.

The video also encourages people to sign up for alerts on their cell phones.

EMD Deputy Commissioner Christina Farrell told radio station 1010 WINS, "I don't know if there's ever a good time to release a nuclear preparedness PSA, but it's very important, and we want New Yorkers to be prepared - so there's no better time than now."
