Journey to the Forgotten: Abandoned Camp Far West Cemetery

Lake Camp Far West is named after the first US Army fort in Northern California Camp Far West also known as Fort Far West and Cantonment Far West.
The fort itself was only in operation for 4 years before being abandoned. The cemetery had been used since 1844 and abandoned by 1856 according to the monument. The monument names the 4 service members who are known to be resting here.

All buildings and signs of the USA Army are gone. Inside the monument were one a kind documents that have since been looted. The monument and Fort sites are located on private property and not easy to get to. Join me on a flight to pay my respect to the pioneers of California.
