Dental Filling Toxicity Fear: A Myth or Actuality – New Insights from Big NHANES Data Analysis | Xiaozhong (John) Yu, MD, PhD

Learning Objectives:
1. Introduce our recent study using an existing database from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).
2. To examine the association between the dental fillings and body burden of mercury and BPA.
3. The scientific basis for the on-going risk assessment of exposure to Hg and/or BPA from dental restorations.

Dr. Yu is an assistant Professor at University of Georgia. He received his PhD in Environmental Toxicology from the School of Medicine, Nagoya University in 1999 and was a postdoctoral fellow at National Institute of Industrial Health (Ministry of Labor, Japan) from 2001-2002 and acting assistant professor at University of Washington from 2002-2006. Dr. Yu’s lab is examining the relationship between environmental exposures and human diseases at macro (epidemiology) and micro (molecular) levels, with emphasis on the discovery of new molecular and biochemical markers of exposure, effect, and susceptibility. Dr. Yu received several outstanding awards from Society of Toxicology including best Paper Award in the Reproductive and developmental Toxicology Specialty Section, outstanding paper award for "Advancing the Science of Risk Assessment " for his computational toxicology research integrating Omics data into the risk assessment.
