The 2000 rupee note is not banned in India. It was introduced in 2016 as part of a government initiative to combat counterfeit currency. The RBI said that the decision was taken as part of its "Clean Note Policy" that aims to ensure availability of good quality banknotes for the public. The RBI also said that the 2000 rupee note was not commonly used for transactions and that its withdrawal would not have a significant impact on the economy.
