I recently purchased the Shakespeare Micro Spinning Rod and was very pleased with my purchase. I opted for the light model and was happy to find that it was actually ultra-light, which is perfect for my kayak fishing needs.
The rod was incredibly affordable, making it a great option for those looking for a budget-friendly option.
I paired the rod with an inexpensive reel and found that it was perfect for catching pan fish without any major concerns about losing it if it were to fall overboard.
When using this rod on my kayak, I prefer a shorter rod for better clearance. This rod fits the bill perfectly. The action of the rod is perfect when using 4lb mono and I had no issues bringing in a 16" smallmouth bass during my first trip out with it.
Unfortunately, the insert on the tip top guide fell out during that same trip. However, I was able to push it back in and secure it with some superglue.
While it is a bummer that the guide fell out, I cant complain too much considering the price point of the rod.
Ive noticed that many negative reviews of this product are related to shipping damage or improper handling, both of which are not indicative of the rods quality.
In my experience, this rod is both durable and sensitive, with a great action for throwing lightweight lures and reeling in a variety of fish species, from trout to pan fish to small to medium-sized bass.
In fact, I prefer this rod to my previous St. Croix Trout series rod, making it my go-to choice for kayak fishing outings. At only $20, this rod is incredibly affordable, but even if it were to break, it wouldnt break the bank to replace it.
For the price, you really cant go wrong with this rod.
