They enjoy their own company and are perfectly content with having no one around for long periods. Even extroverts are okay with spending some time by themselves every now and then. But for some people, solitude is a nightmare. They fear it, avoid it at all costs, and even feel anxiety when spending time alone.

In some cases, the fear of being alone is so intense that it’s diagnosed as monophobia or autophobia. Now, there can be several underlying reasons for hating being alone. And more often than not, it can be traced back to a deep-rooted fear of abandonment that stems from childhood.

Of course, there is a difference between being alone and being lonely. Lonely is a feeling of isolation or loneliness caused by a lack of companionship or meaningful relationships.
