Why are US active ETF sales surging while counterparts face outflows? Benjamin Z Miller Answers

In February, active exchange-traded funds (ETFs) outperformed passive ETFs in terms of sales in the US market. According to data from Morningstar, active ETFs attracted $8.6 billion in inflows, while passive ETFs experienced outflows of $10.4 billion. This shift was primarily driven by JPMorgan Asset Management, which secured the second-place position in terms of overall flows with $5.5 billion.

Key contributors to JPMorgan's sales were its Equity Premium Income, Ultra-Short Income, Nasdaq Equity Premium Income, and BetaBuilders Europe funds. On the other hand, Vanguard remained the top seller with $9.6 billion in inflows. iShares and State Street Global Advisors faced outflows, with iShares seeing investors pull $15.7 billion and State Street Global Advisors experiencing outflows of $17.3 billion. This trend reflects a growing preference for actively managed ETFs, signaling investors' interest in seeking specific investment strategies and potential outperformance.
