A Federal Judge is FURIOUS a lawyer in his court used artificial intelligence, in this case it was ChatGPT, to draft and actually file a motion filed with fake, made up cases, while arguing his client’s case which was already in litigation. Very, Very BAD. The Judge looked up the cases, discovered they were fake, and issued an Order to Show Cause, which are the four words every lawyer LOATHES to hear. It’s like being called into the principal’s office except the principal in this case is a federal judge who can destroy your law license and maybe even put you in jail.
