Part 1: What is Tekhelet? The mystery of the lost Biblical dye
What color was Tekhelet? How was it made?
Baruch Sterman is the author of "The Rarest Blue" a book that recounts the effort to figure out the lost formula for the holy dye known as Tekhelet in the Bible.
About 1300 years ago, the secrets of Tekhelet, this wondrous blue color and the identity of the mysterious sea creature – the Chillazon – that produced the dye was lost.
Over the past half-century, a convergence of research and discoveries by Rabbis, scientists, archaeologists, and others has led to the conclusive identification of the source of Tekhelet.
Baruch Sterman is co-founder of the Ptil Tekhelet Association. Baruch received his doctorate in Physics from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, He received his Masters in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University.
