US President Joe Biden and Republican leader Kevin McCarthy called their latest talks on the debt ceiling productive, but no deal has been reached.

Any agreement will have to pass through the US Congress.

Without a deal, the US could enter a calamitous default on its $31.4tr (£25tr) debt as soon as 1 June.
