Whether it be the Little Mermaid, Star Wars, Star Trek, Ghostbusters, Doctor Who or anything else, whenever a new version of any beloved classic is given a makeover for modern audiences and inevitably fails for it, the entertainment media complex has no qualms about blaming and shaming the audience – more specifically, the domestic audience.

The by now traditional narrative is that you, the domestic audience, you are backwards ists and phobes, living in the past, and that is problematic! You need to do better, and get with the times, like the rest of the world!
But what if the problem is the rest of the world? Then what?
Because that is the big problem facing the Little Mermaid right now, is the movie is being rejected by every audience in every market of the world except the domestic market, so what now?
