In Bolton, Greater Manchester, England, there is a public institution called the University of Bolton. Bolton College of Education was originally known as the Bolton Mechanics Institute when it was founded in 1824. This and the Bolton Institute of Technology joined together in 1982 to form the Bolton Institute of Higher Education.
