What is the “Popshelf” store run by Dollar General?

pOpshelf stores are a new retail store offered by Dollar General that launched in 2020 with prices ranging from $1 to $10. The stores will most similarly reflect Five Below, but the focus is more on parents, than their children. pOpshelf stores have a focus on seasonal, home décor, health and beauty, and part and entertainment goods. There are over 160 pOpshelf locations at this time.
The stores target households where incomes are between $50,000 and $125,0000 in contrast to Dollar General stores that focus on households earning $40,000 or less.
The weakness in the US economy has led Dollar General to reduce the number of planned pOpshelf openings in 2023 but there are still plans to be operating 230 locaiton by the end of the year.
