The Montgolfier brothers, a French paper manufacturer, invented the hot air balloon and conducted the first public experiment in the eastern city of Anonay.

The Kingdom of Hungary signed the "Treaty of Trianon" with the Allied Powers, which determined the national border, and lost most of the territory of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Nazi German forces successfully captured the French coastal town of Dunkirk, but the prisoners failed to evacuate to the Allied forces in Britain.
