SHORT AND TO THE POINT-STAY PUT

Over the course of my pastoral career and multiplied churches, I have ministered to thousands of individuals. The view from the pastoral vantage point is an interesting and often frustrating experience. God puts a vision in your heart, and you attempt to communicate it to those who have come into your congregation. Often after months of input, you wonder if anybody's listening.
So many come in looking for a sign, and after a few months, you wonder where they went.
I thought it one time (obviously when I was younger) if I could build a big fence around this crowd and keep them here long enough, perhaps I could see God's purpose develop in their life.
But no, it just doesn't work that way in our society. After all, we are Americans, and we are independent.
We like to call ourselves a seed in the ground that God has planted. But I often thought of the old television program "have seed will travel."
We say God led us, and yet we like to be on the move. If it doesn't happen in six months, I will pull up my stakes and move.
This may sound like a stern message today, but someone needs to hear this from the Holy Ghost. Stay put long enough for your seed to take root, so the fruit of your life will show evidence and come to fullness.
The Bible is full of men and women who had to stay in awkward and hard places until they had fulfilled God's purpose.
No matter if you are a pastor or a carpenter, if God put you there, stay until it's complete. I hired a carpenter years ago and didn't know he had two or three other jobs, and he bounced back and forth. I thought he would never finish mine.
The Holy Spirit has a purpose for you and me, and most of us don't understand it until we stay put and wait for God to give us direction.
