My rating, based upon my playthrough experience, is: Average

Is there anything woke about this game? No. That comes much later in the series.

Far Cry Instincts was an innovative shooter when it arrived in 2005. Many were impressed with its usage of stealth blended with action, graphical presentation. and cool feral abilities. This is also the only game AFAIK that allows you to flip onto your back when prone to shoot directly upwards. It also gets the distinction for being the first game AFAIK that allows you to rip off and carry heavy, turreted weapons; a trend that we see followed by blockbusters like Halo and Gears.

Unfortunately, the game has some glaring issues. First off, the controls aren't good, even for OG Xbox standards, which was a low bar. Second, the load times when transitioning to a new environment are massive, I clocked one load time -on record- at 2:50. Last but not least, the melee system doesn't work all that well when you acquire the feral abilities. Sometimes you fail to connect, sometimes you hump walls, sometimes you can't path to the target correctly. Another thing worth noting is stealth doesn't work that well, which turns this into a run-and-gun (which is fine by me), and the enemy AI is braindead in most cases. This is quite funny, considering how the game advertised itself as having trained and intelligent AI. Yeah, no.

Overall, it's a very mixed bag. Being what it is, it's a great starting off point for the series and the sequel was one of my favorite games of all times, and the best in the Far Cry series. If only the current developers could leave their woke bullshit behind and re-evaluate what made titles like this, Far Cry 2, and Far Cry 3 so good. But that would require self-criticism, and wokies can't tolerate criticism. Don't hold your breath.
