One of the marketing lines used for UFC 1 was that there would be no doping probes. This was fine for the first few years of the promotion as the competition wasn't all that fierce. However, by the 2010s, doping became a real problem. Just look at the likes of Ken Shamrock, Alastair Overeem, Wanderlei Silva, and of course, Brock Lesnar. the unfairness of this situation becomes quite apparent. When fighters started getting seriously injured at the hands of roided fighters, the UFC had to step in. Michael Bisping getting blinded in one eye by Vitor Belfort who was on testosterone replacement therapy was the straw that broke the camel's back. The UFC introduced strict anti-doping rules and multiple independent studies showed the true impact of PEDs. Many fighters suspected of doping suddenly started losing twice as many matches after the ban as they did before and slowly but surely, the era of roided monsters in the UFC came to an end.
