Homestead Cleanup Day (Can I Fix This Junky Trailer?)

The farm is getting a little dirty so we are building a free DIY pallet firewood rack and moving some fence posts out of the weeds. The firewood racks will also double as a way to store some metal roofing off of the ground. And we dig an old trailer out of the woods to perhaps one day turn into something super useful.

The only thing I hate more than mowing around junk in the yard is weed-eating around that junk so today we are going to knock out a few birds with one stone. We accumulate a bunch of stuff like pallets and beat up metal roofing. I don’t like storing that roofing on the ground because the grass grows up around it and it becomes an eyesore, plus it’s a place for snacks to hang out and become a safety hazard where my kids like to play. Today I build a couple of firewood racks from pallets and I’ll store the metal roofing on top of that. No more mowing around the panels and I can work on cleaning up the mess that’s been building in front of my shop, too.

While we’re into this I decided to drag an old trailer out of the weeds to store some fence posts off the ground. Eventually this trailer will become a goat hauler (unless we change our minds) but at present it’ll be one less thing I have to watch out for when I’m mowing. Trailers work better when the tires have air in them and these were in pretty rough shape. Before this thing is roadworthy those old dry-rotted tires will need to be replaced but for around-the-farm use they will do just fine.
