March to the Majority is a very important book because it shows you how we reformed welfare, returned work to the centerpiece of social policy and in the process helped millions of Americans get off of dependency on the government and go to work. Creating a better future. You know, our welfare reform bill actually meant that millions of young people left poverty. It was the best program for fighting child poverty ever in American history. The numbers are clear and the studies have proven it. So I think it's important to recognize that we can reform welfare. We cannot require able bodied adults to work. And in the process, one of the great side benefits is that their children learn that it's okay to get up in the morning and go to a job. It's okay to try to have a better job. It's okay to worry about how you spend the money that you earn. And I think the result was healthier for families, healthier for children, and certainly a lot healthier for the United States. It was a major step towards balancing the budget.
