Dr. Gary Johns Interview – The Burden of Culture & The Voice - The ExCandidates Ep64

We are joined by former Labor Federal Member of Parliament from 1987 to 1996 and a member of the Keating Government ministry.

Since leaving Parliament, Dr. Johns has kept busy as a senior fellow of the Institute of Public Affairs from 1997 to 2006, President of the Bennelong Society and now as a committee member of Recognise a Better Way.

Notably, Dr. Johns has also written widely on Aboriginal affairs including the books Aboriginal Self-Determination and most recently, the Burden of Culture.

In this interview Dr. Johns discusses what he means by ‘the Burden of Culture’ as it relates to the Aboriginal people and what attracted him to becoming passionate about the issue in the first place. He then goes on to detail his opposition for the upcoming referendum to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Voice to Parliament.
