The truth about Judah and Tamar

God punishes Er for wickedness: Tamar left childless

Judah had a son, Er, who was his firstborn and married Tamar. Unfortunately, the Lord put Er to death because of his wickedness. Onan, his brother, was then made to fulfill the levirate marriage in Er's stead, but refused to allow Tamar to conceive. The Lord took vengeance on Onan. Judah refused to give his third son to Tamar, fearing for his life.
