“Mom, I Don't Want to Get Married ” A New Means of Protest in China as Marriage Rate Drops by Half

On June 6th, in #Hainan, #China, a young woman rode through the streets holding a banner that said, "Mom! I really don't want to get married."

This phrase has become the new slogan of nonviolent resistance among young people.
Under the violent suppression and strict coercion of the #CCP government, not getting married has also become a means of protest. Data shows that in 2022, the number of marriages in China was 6.833 million couples.
This figure is the lowest since 1986 when the relevant data was first published on the website of the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
At the same time, it marks the ninth consecutive year of decline in the number of marriages in China since reaching a peak of 13.469 million couples in 2013. Compared to the peak in 2013, the number of marriages in China has decreased by 49.3% over the past nine years, almost half.
