After years of eroding Frank Castle's world and changing his rules and practices to something unrecognizable, then they messed with his iconography, and even altered his entire motive for doing what he has always done.
So in the last issue they cucked him out and killed him off.
It was a mercy killing...and they got the outrage they wanted and the emotional backlash is still on going...
